Gator Tracks - May 25-29, 2026

A big thank you to Mme. Scott, Mme. Putos, M. McGrath and Ms. Field for leading this incredible production and to all staff and students who supported throughout the process helping with rehearsals, building props, running lines and all the details in between.  Thank you to families for supporting students as they worked towards opening night.  This is a memory that all Gatos will hold with them for years to come!As the staffing process begins for the 2026–2027 school year, we are sharing that Mr. Boyce, our amazing VP, will be moving to Bath PS for September 2026. We will miss Mr. Boyce, and we are incredibly grateful for the tremendous impact he has had at AVPS. His kindness, positivity, leadership, and support for students, staff, and families have helped make our school such a caring and welcoming place to learn and grow. We thank him for all he has contributed to our Gator community and wish him nothing but success and happiness in this next chapter. We are also excited to welcome Christine Kennedy, the incoming VP, from Rideau PS to our Gator team and look forward to the many great things ahead!  Once the spring staffing process is complete, we will share more information with families.We are looking forward to many exciting upcoming events. 2026 05 14 Community Foundation Grant for Summer Math and Literacy

LDSB Receives $25,000 Grant to Support Elementary Summer Learning

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) has received a $25,000 grant through the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area’s Community Grants Program in support of its Elementary Summer Literacy and Math Program.The three-week program supports Limestone students finishing Senior Kindergarten to Grade 3 by strengthening foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics to help set students up for success in the following school year.Grant funding will be used to purchase literacy and math learning resources and to create family engagement packages. These take-home resources are designed to support learning at home and encourage families to engage in literacy and math activities alongside their students.The LDSB is grateful to the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area for their generous support, helping students across the district access this important summer learning opportunity.

This includes staffing, timetables and new registrations. Our planning also addresses next year’s class placements for students.The creation of classes is a complex task that takes into account many factors. When determining placements for next year we consider learning and academic needs, behavioural and social needs, gender balance and class size. Our ultimate goal is to create balanced classrooms that maximize the potential for student learning.We recognize that, in a few individual cases, there may be important reasons why a specific placement is requested. In these cases, please submit a written or emailed request directly to our office indicating the reasons for your request. All events will take place on the school yard during the school day.Results will be recorded and used to help select the AVPS Track and Field Team, which will compete at the Invista Centre in early June.Please ensure your child is prepared by wearing comfortable clothing and outdoor running shoes. Bringing sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle is also recommended.AVPS Track and Field CoachesThe AVPS Spring Running Club is in full swing. Thank you for reminding your athlete to bring their outdoor running shoes on practice days (Mondays and Wednesdays), regardless of what the weather is like in the morning. Often, the rain clears up by practice time and students must be wearing outdoor running shoes to participate in running practice.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3"> Inclement Weather</h3>In the event of inclement weather during practice time (pouring rain or thunder/lightning), we will not run outside. The grade 5-8 after school practice will continue indoors for those who need to wait for pickup at 4:00. In this case, we will move the pickup location to the front doors of the school. Please meet your athlete there at 4:00 to be signed out by a coach.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3">Road Races</h3>For those students who consistently come to running practice, there is an opportunity to participate in local road races. When determining placements for next year we consider learning and academic needs, behavioural and social needs, gender balance and class size. Our ultimate goal is to create balanced classrooms that maximize the potential for student learning.We recognize that, in a few individual cases, there may be important reasons why a specific placement is requested. Thank you for reminding your athlete to bring their outdoor running shoes on practice days (Mondays and Wednesdays), regardless of what the weather is like in the morning. Often, the rain clears up by practice time and students must be wearing outdoor running shoes to participate in running practice.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3">Inclement Weather</h3>In the event of inclement weather during practice time (pouring rain or thunder/lightning), we will not run outside. The grade 5-8 after school practice will continue indoors for those who need to wait for pickup at 4:00. In this case, we will move the pickup location to the front doors of the school. Please meet your athlete there at 4:00 to be signed out by a coach.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3">Road Races</h3>For those students who consistently come to running practice, there is an opportunity to participate in local road races. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. Often, the rain clears up by practice time and students must be wearing outdoor running shoes to participate in running practice.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3">Inclement Weather</h3>In the event of inclement weather during practice time (pouring rain or thunder/lightning), we will not run outside. The grade 5-8 after school practice will continue indoors for those who need to wait for pickup at 4:00. In this case, we will move the pickup location to the front doors of the school. Please meet your athlete there at 4:00 to be signed out by a coach.<h3 class="editor-heading-h3">Road Races</h3>For those students who consistently come to running practice, there is an opportunity to participate in local road races. Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. An overview of the Student Census 2025 was presented to the Board of Trustees at last night’s board meeting. The purpose of the Running Club is to encourage fitness in a fun and supportive environment. Students will be encouraged to improve their endurance, speed, and agility, and will have the option to compete at Road Races in late April and early May, hosted by local high schools. Unlike the Cross-Country race in the Fall, there will be no requirement to consistently run a certain distance to compete at the Spring Road Races - all students who consistently come to practices are welcome.Students sign-up for Running Club in class with their teachers. All new runners will bring home an Athletic Permission Form to be signed by their parents or guardians and returned to their coaches prior to the first practice. Students in grades 3-4 will practice during recess/nutrition break while students in grades 5-8 will attend practice after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. An information sheet with all practice dates and times will be sent home with those students who sign-up.
