This Week at AVPS
This week, students, staff, and families came together for our Remembrance Day assemblies. We were so proud of our Gators from JK–8 for their thoughtful reflection, beautiful artwork, and meaningful contributions. A special thank-you to Warrant Officer Brendhon McCrea (Mr. McCrea, Grade 6/7 teacher at AVPS) for his service and for sharing a powerful presentation at our assemblies.
Indigenous Education Month
November is Indigenous Education Month—a time to learn from and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. As a school community, we look forward to continuing to build understanding, respect, and gratitude together.
📚 Learning in Action
Families of students in Grades 1–8 will receive Progress Reports this week. Kindergarten families will receive the Initial Communication of Learning. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher.
Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week November 17–21
Next week, students, staff, and families are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its impact on student learning and well-being. Please check out the LDSB resources shared below. On November 21, we invite everyone to wear pink to show we stand for kindness and inclusion.
Bus Cancellation Days
On bus cancellation days, schools remain open unless you hear otherwise. If you drive your child to school on these days, please pick students up at their class lineup spot at 3:25 PM.
End-of-Day Pickups
Please avoid calling the office after 3:00 PM to arrange pick-ups. By this time, classes are packing up, transitioning outdoors, or already heading to the buses.
Office Administrator Update
Shelley Shaw and Brenda Buffett will be supporting the AVPS office alongside assistant office administrator Erin Carrol while we work through the staffing process for Barb Rolfe’s replacement. We extend a big thank-you to Ms. Shaw, Ms. Buffett, and Ms. Carrol for helping ensure consistency in our office during this transition.
🧥 Weather-Ready Reminder
Thank you for sending your child with clearly labeled, weather-appropriate clothing—including extra items as needed. Being prepared helps students stay comfortable, focused, and ready for learning and play each day.
