February 23 to 27, 2026
Dear AVPS Families,
As we wrap up February, thank you for your continued support of our green and gold Gators! It’s been an exciting time at AVPS — with Olympic spirit in the air and growing anticipation for our upcoming play, The Fossils. Students have been showing fantastic teamwork, perseverance, and school pride. 🐊
Students continue to learn about the many accomplishments and contributions of Black Canadians. While February highlights this learning, our commitment to inclusion and equity continues all year long.
The Olympic excitement connects to a message we share daily: there is no failure, only feedback. Like athletes, our students practice, reflect, and grow — building confidence and stamina along the way.
Please see the links below to the resource through TVO Kids. A great resource to learn more about various multicultural holidays, and the celebrations that happen during these times.
Our focus at AVPS remains strong foundations in literacy and math, along with our Words Matter campaign. By choosing kind words, listening with empathy, and supporting one another—even when we disagree—we help create a positive, inclusive school for everyone. 💚
Way to go, AVPS! 🐊💚💛 Thank you to our amazing staff, families, and community partners for working together to support every Gator – big and small.
If you have any questions, please reach out—we are here to support you.
Black History Month is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future. It is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many achievements of Black Canadians, amplify Black voices, and acknowledge the significant contributions Black communities have made—and continue to make—to our shared history.
At AVPS, we are proud to honour the rich history, accomplishments, and lasting contributions of Black communities across Canada. Throughout the month, students are engaging in meaningful learning experiences, including researching and writing biographies of influential Black figures, listening to powerful stories and personal accounts, and exploring artistic expressions that highlight Black culture and history.

The Words Matter Campaign aims to reduce the incidence and impact of harmful and discriminatory language within our school community. 💚💛
🐊 This whole-school initiative includes activities engaging staff, students, and parents/caregivers.
We are in the process of gathering some data related to how AVPS students are feeling about the words they hear at school. This data will help us to further identify areas of need.
As we know, it takes a team to make an impact. We are committed to providing students, educators, and families with the resources and support needed to maximize the impact of this work through Words Matter and the LDSB Equity Team.
The pocket guide for addressing harmful language below is being implemented at AVPS. We are sharing with families as a resource to support conversations at home.

🌱💚 Coming Up: Growth Mindset Assembly
Our next assembly will focus on growth mindset and the power of yet— the idea that with effort and perseverance, we will get there! This important concept helps students to learn the importance of building grit and determination to support that productive struggle that allows students to stick with new concepts and learning. Keep working hard Gators, you can do it!!
