AVPS Families,
Welcome to October! What a great week at AVPS!
As we move more into the fall, students and staff are working hard and digging further into learning. This week, the AVPS senior soccer teams competed at their tournaments. We are so proud of your initiative, teamwork and Gator Grit!!
A huge shout-out to soccer coaches Mme. Scott and M. Greenly for their time and energy!
Running club is underway and students are working hard in preparation for the upcoming cross-country meet at Fort Henry. If your child is involved in athletics, look for messages from coaches through school day.
Teachers are currently working to update IEPs (Individual Education Plan) for term one. IEPs will come home on October 16.
Below you can see some of the awesome that is happening at AVPS through photos of Gators exploring, learning and growing!
Open House is coming! Thursday, October 9 from 4:30–5:30 p.m.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, meet their educators, and see some of the learning underway. We look forward to seeing you there!
This evening will not permit time for individual updates/meetings for families. If you would like to connect with your child’s educators, please reach out to them and schedule a meeting for another mutually convenient time.
Hot lunch is coming soon! Hot lunch is organized and run by our fantastic School Advisory Council. Once this is up and running, communication will come to families.

FAMILIES – WE NEED YOUR HELP – SAFETY CONCERN!!
Please use the corner of Amherst Dr. & Fairfield Blvd. where the crossing guard is located. Please follow the directions of the crossing guard only to avoid any unnecessary safety issues. There is a second crossing guard at the front of AVPS helping students and families cross Fairfield Blvd. into the park across from the font doors of AVPS.

Terry Fox – Run, Walk Roll
A huge thank-you/merci!
We can’t thank you enough – the lessons that we can learn from Terry Fox will always be valuable – the grit and determination that Terry shared with the world is an inspiration to us all and helps us to push through the hard and NEVER GIVE UP – just like Terry.
Please see the impact that Terry has had – below is a beautiful piece of writing below.
Terry Fox - By Scarlett T.
Terry was an incredible man. He was kind and brave. He lived his life to help people from across the world with cancer. He’s the reason Canada is an amazing place. He’s the reason people are not suffering from cancer. Now we honour him for all that he has done for us and the world we are happy that Terry came to help. He didn’t just want to help himself. He did it for us. It made him happy that we are here to support him and to thank him for all we have done for him, and it is our turn to repay him by honouring him and respecting other people around you. We thank Terry for all that he has done for us. Thank you, Terry Fox.
Words Matter Campaign
AVPS will continue the work started last school year with the Words Matter Campaign through The Harmony Movement Program. Students, families and staff will benefit from this approach and goal of creating lasting, respectful, and inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive. Together, we can address harmful words to support a better school experience for everyone. Let’s do this Gators!

City of Kingston School Travel Survey
The City of Kingston, in partnership with community agencies and local school boards, including Limestone DSB, are conducting an optional survey to better understand how students travel to and from school in Kingston. By taking part, you will also enter your school in a chance to win a free bike rack!
Your responses will provide valuable insights into travel patterns and help inform future active school travel initiatives, such as new policies, programs, and infrastructure improvements. This survey is intended to be conducted at regular intervals in the future to determine how travel patterns may be changing over time.
All responses will remain anonymous, and the data will be used to improve safety, accessibility, and convenience for families.
The survey will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. We recommend you use a larger screen, if possible, like a laptop or monitor.
Access the survey online before October 13, 2025: Take the survey online.
Thank you for your time and your feedback.
