AVPS Families,
What a wonderful start to the school year! We are so grateful for the strong sense of community and support throughout this first month. The partnership between home and school is essential as we work together to help every student grow, learn, and reach their full potential.
A heartfelt thank you for your generosity during our Terry Fox event. This annual tradition brings with it powerful lessons in perseverance, compassion, and community. Together, we honored a cause that has touched so many lives—likely including many of our own families. The link below continues to be active if you are wanting to make a donation. Nice work, Gators!
We are excited to invite you to our Open House on Thursday, October 9 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. It’s a wonderful opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, meet their educators, and see some of the learning underway. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our first School Council meeting was a great success and a strong step in building deeper connections between families and the school. Congratulations to our newly elected 2025–2026 Amherstview School Advisory Council Executive! (Listed below) We're looking forward to another great year of collaboration and shared leadership.
As we approach The National Day for Truth and Reconcilliation, Orange Shirt Day on September 30, AVPS remains committed to ongoing learning and respectful conversations about our shared history. These moments matter, and we thank you for supporting this important work at home and in the community.
Hot lunch is coming soon! Hot lunch is organized and run by our fantastic School Advisory Council. Once this is up and running, communication will come to families.
In the classroom, students and staff are working hard to build strong foundational literacy and math skills. Your support at home makes a real difference—thank you for being engaged partners in your child’s learning.
Here’s to a great year ahead—together, we’re off to a strong start!
Please reach out to the school if you have any questions, we are here to support you!

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day - September 30th
We are reminded of our responsibility to engage intentionally in learning about the Residential School System and the true history of relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in what is currently known as Canada. This is a day to honour the children who never returned home, to stand with Survivors, and to commit to reconciliation in our classrooms and communities.
In alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, which call on educators and governments to ensure that all students learn about Indigenous histories, cultures, and contributions, students at AVPS will spend time learning about this important part of history. We have shared resources, community connections and ideas for families that you can access on our website to use at home.

Safety Drills
Each fall in spring, LDSB schools are required to complete three practice fire drills along with other safety drills, including hold and secure and lockdown. We will begin practicing these drills next week. Educators will prepare students in development mentally appropriate ways for these important drills. We practice these drills so that we are prepared although we hope we never have to use them.

City of Kingston School Travel Survey
The City of Kingston, in partnership with community agencies and local school boards, including Limestone DSB, are conducting an optional survey to better understand how students travel to and from school in Kingston. By taking part, you will also enter your school in a chance to win a free bike rack!
Your responses will provide valuable insights into travel patterns and help inform future active school travel initiatives, such as new policies, programs, and infrastructure improvements. This survey is intended to be conducted at regular intervals in the future to determine how travel patterns may be changing over time.
All responses will remain anonymous, and the data will be used to improve safety, accessibility, and convenience for families.
The survey will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. We recommend you use a larger screen, if possible, like a laptop or monitor.
Access the survey online before October 13, 2025: Take the survey online.
Thank you for your time and your feedback.
