⭐ January 12-16, 2026
A big shout out to our AVPS community for jumping into January together!
Winter weather certainly made for an unusual start to the new year with several bus cancellation days. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and teamwork as we worked to restart routines after the winter break.
This week, Gators stepped back into learning. Teachers are continuing to support and assess students as they gather learning evidence for the Term One Provincial Learning Report Card, which will be sent home on February 13.
Literacy week is coming up at the end of January, please see the information below. Many thanks to Mme. K. Sullivan, Mme. R. Jaynes, Mme. C. Sullivan and Mme. H. Jaynes for organizing a fun, engaging week for AVPS!
Student Council has been planning more spirit days! More information coming soon.
- January 22 - Twin Day
- February 5 - Educator Swap Day
- February 12 - Decades Day
- February 19 – Career Day
Winter can be challenging, but it also gives us a chance to build resilience, grit, and determination. By supporting one another with kindness at AVPS, we show students that we can do hard things—together. Gator Grit!
We continue to work with the contractor responsible for snow removal and the township to create safe walkways for everyone in and around the school.
Our first School Council Advisory Meeting (SAC) of 2026 will be held on Thursday January 15 at 6:00 p.m. Join us in the school library or online (MS Teams link will be shared with families ahead of the meeting). Childcare provided; everyone is welcome!
🚸 Road & Parking Lot Safety
Student safety is our top priority. Please help us keep everyone safe by following these important reminders:
- Use the crossing guard at Amherst Dr. & Fairfield Blvd.
- Please follow crossing guard directions only to avoid safety concerns
- A second crossing guard is stationed at the front of AVPS to help families cross Fairfield Blvd. into the park
- Use sidewalks and the bus walking route beside the AVPS parking lot
- Students and families should not walk through the AVPS parking lot or the parking lot at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School
Thank you for your cooperation and support!

In recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day, IDELLO also features a special resource collection for Grades 5 to 12. These materials help students learn about the lived experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada and encourage thoughtful reflection on building a better future.
