Student Supports šš
In response to tragic events, students may experience a wide range of emotions, including sadness, confusion, worry, or questions about what they may be hearing from others. Students may react in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and how connected they feel to the situation. With time, reassurance, and support from caring adults, these reactions often ease.
We encourage families to keep lines of communication open at home, to invite questions, and to share reassurance as needed. If you have concerns about your student or would like support, please refer to the following resources:
- Supporting Your Childās Well-being
- Caring for yourself while caring for others: A parentās guide to self-care
- By Your Side (parent/caregiver resources to support mental health learning)
- Maltby Centre
- One Stop Talk
- Kids Help Phone (Call 1-800-668-6868 or Text āConnectā to 686868)
- 2-1-1 Ontario
If you are worried about your studentās immediate safety, or the safety of others, please seek urgent assistance by calling 9-1-1, your local mobile crisis service (613-354-7388), or by going to the nearest emergency department.

Yard Update
Our coterminous Board, the Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, has requested to place some temporary construction fence on our property for a short 1-2 week period. The fencing will be approximately 20ā x 60ā along our common property line. The request has come in an abundance of caution to allow the ALCDSB to complete some necessary construction activities related to their new school. We will continue to work with our coterminous Board to ensure the safety of all staff and students remains the top priority for all construction related activities.Ā

We continue to have students cross the street in-between the buses.Ā This is extremely dangerous.Ā Please remind your child/children to cross the street safely at the corners where crossing guards are located.Ā
Check out the opportunities for Gators below!!Ā
A BIG Gator Thank-you & Merci for AVPS Staff for your hard work and time to bring these great opportunities to students!Ā All information below is shared with student daily during announcements.
The AVPS Spring Running club will begin after March break for students in grades 3-8. The purpose of the Running Club is to encourage fitness in a fun and supportive environment. Students will be encouraged to improve their endurance, speed, and agility, and will have the option to compete at Road Races in late April and early May, hosted by local high schools. Unlike the Cross-Country race in the Fall, there will be no requirement to consistently run a certain distance to compete at the Spring Road Races - all students who consistently come to practices are welcome.
Students sign-up for Running Club in class with their teachers. All new runners will bring home an Athletic Permission Form to be signed by their parents or guardians and returned to their coaches prior to the first practice. Students in grades 3-4 will practice during recess/nutrition break while students in grades 5-8 will attend practice after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. An information sheet with all practice dates and times will be sent home with those students who sign-up. We look forward to a great running season!
