The School Enrolment/School Capacity Committee (SE/SCC) of the Limestone District School Board voted on Sept. 28 to approve reaching out to the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) to explore the possibility of a joint-use facility on Wolfe Island.
The decision follows the receipt of a staff report on various accommodation issues at Marysville Public School located on Wolfe Island. The report recommends that the Director of Education request a meeting with her counterpart at ALCDSB regarding the possible sharing of facilities on the island.
The possible sharing of facilities would address ongoing declining enrolment at both schools. The possibility of joint-use facilities was recommended in the Long-Term Accommodation Plan recently completed by Ameresco Asset Sustainability Group Inc.
“There was a previous arrangement on Wolfe Island between Marysville Public school and Sacred Heart Catholic School” says LDSB Board Chair Paula Murray. “Perhaps it is time to explore the possibility of a new partnership to address declining enrolment challenges on the Island. We look forward to their input and feedback.”
The decision to initiate the consultation has to be approved at the next regular Board meeting scheduled for Oct. 19, 2016.
